It’s well known that Coronavirus has caused widespread hysteria over the past couple of months. Part of the reason for all of the hype is the amount of information that is unknown about the virus. The exact origin, death toll, and overall danger it presents are still up in the air.

That being said I think the whole thing is a crock of shit. PLEASE, BEFORE YOU GET MAD ABOUT MY OPINION, LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF.

First and foremost, I believe that the fear surrounding coronavirus are extremely overblown. Now there are a lot of reasons for this, and I will try to cover them all, but here are some of the main reasons I see:

  1. All deaths in hospitals, even other sicknesses that aren’t corona but have symptoms similar to corona, are being counted as Covid deaths.
  2. The media is making a killing off of the corona virus storyline and wants to keep racking up the pageviews and money
  3. An exponentially larger amount of people have already had the disease and recovered from it

Let’s expand on #1.

the new stimulus bill passed by the government allows hospitals to receive money for every corona case/death they report. this is a well known fact. Elon Musk expanded on this during his recent interview on the Joe Rogan Experience.

Second, if you look at the CDC’s website, you can see that the reported flu deaths have dropped significantly since the start of the pandemic. Now, this could be because of the warming weather and/or more corona cases, but I don’t think that is what’s happening. Instead, hospitals are counting all corona related deaths as Covid-caused. By that, I mean that people are being reported to die from Covid even if they haven’t tested positive.

For reference: the first four numbers are the year, the last two numbers are the week in the year. So the chart goes to 2019, week 52 and then restarts

Now obviously a lot of people that have died had corona, but never got tested. So not every death that is reported is false.

#2. The media is making a killing off of the corona storyline.

any rational person cannot deny this. For the past two months, all eyes have been glued to news channels and articles.

It’s a well known fact that media outlets get viewers by grabbing their attention. Click bait headlines will get more pageviews. Scary words on a TV screen make people watch. So, it is important to note that not everything you see on the internet/tv is true (shocking, I know). You have to take everything with a grain of salt because they just want to make sure you absorb their stories.

(on a somewhat related note, it’s important to remember who runs the media. Jeff Bezos owns the washington post. Amazon stock has gone through the roof the past couple of weeks. Don’t ya think he might want to keep making money because people use Amazon to buy things when they are stuck at home?)

#3. There are millions of unconfirmed positive cases/people who have already had the virus.

Speaking from personal experience, I had a lot of friends who went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and got sick the next week. They all had the common symptoms of corona: fever, cough, yada yada. They haven’t been tested and there’s no way to know for sure, but I am extremely certain that they were exposed to the virus while in New Orleans. It ended up being the epicenter of the south, so it wouldn’t surprise me. Also shocking news: they all were fine.

There is also scientific research that can be proven by facts coming out about antibody testing. Many health officials are coming out and saying that there could be around ten times as many positive cases as we think. People are just getting over it because its not that fucking bad.

To wrap up: Corona is not nearly as bad as people think. The media is making a mountain out of a molehill because they can. I don’t really blame them for taking advantage of the situation.
